Parsonage Update
When Pastor Branden and Veronica Heskett welcomed the SeedOne team to Mt. Zion Church in Pine Grove, California, they received a team who would help them facilitate his vision rooted in the word “family.” Having served previously as a youth pastor under two different leaders, Pastor Branden and his wife returned in 2024 to take on the lead pastor role. “Much of what we've worked towards since being elected has centered around family,” he said. “We desire every person, from the youngest child to the most ‘mature’ adult, to find a place that encourages and helps them live out a growing relationship with Jesus.”

Mt. Zion Church, soon to celebrate 50 years of ministry, holds a rich legacy in this close-knit foothill town of about 3,000 people. Known for its generous, hardworking spirit, the community has long supported Mt. Zion’s mission. But the physical condition of the church building and a parsonage had become pressing issues. “We were one winter storm away from gutters falling off completely,” Pastor Branden recalled. The fascia boards were rotting, and the situation had become dangerous and disheartening.
The most serious concern was the parsonage. “The baseplate on the front wall of the house had rotted away, causing the entire wall to be unstable,” he shared. It was a challenge beyond the reach of the local team and a perfect opportunity for SeedOne to step in.
In May 2025, a team of SeedOne volunteers arrived to serve. Within just five days, they tackled both major projects. At the church, they replaced the deteriorating fascia boards and installed 100 feet of new gutters. At the parsonage, the team reframed the unstable wall, replaced siding, and scraped and painted the entire exterior. “Talk about a transformation,” Pastor Branden said, reflecting on the work done.
The rapid and professional improvements amazed many in the congregation. “Our people were blown away at the work that was done in such a short time,” Pastor Branden said. What was once a growing burden became a testimony of God’s provision and teamwork.
The ripple effects of this work reach beyond the church body. Mt. Zion regularly hosts community events, and the updated facilities removed the distraction of disrepair. “Now we don’t have to worry about these facility issues distracting from the message of Christ we share,” he said. The improvements rekindled a sense of pride and renewed purpose in their ability to minister.
For Pastor Branden, the experience reinforced just how powerful local missions can be. “You don’t have to jump on an airplane and travel across the globe to make a difference for Jesus,” he said. “SeedOne is a great way for your people to be reminded they are a part of something greater than any of us.”
To anyone considering getting involved with SeedOne, Pastor Branden offered this encouragement: “Whether you are skilled in a trade or not, you can make a difference. I don't believe you will regret the time invested in serving God's Kingdom through this organization.”
As Mt. Zion Church steps into its next 50 years, it does so with strengthened walls and a strengthened spirit. Through SeedOne’s partnership, they’ve experienced firsthand what happens when God's people come together to build, restore, and uplift the name of Jesus.
