When Pastor Timothy Hazen and his wife Linda stepped into leadership at The Rock Assembly of God in May 2023, they saw more than a church building. They saw potential. Located in the heart of Sterling, Colorado, this former elementary school turned church campus covers an entire city block. “We immediately sensed a great potential for the area to grow and reach out to neighboring communities,” Pastor Tim shared. “Our first goal was to restore confidence among the body of believers.”
Sterling, a town of around 13,000 residents, reflects the hardworking roots of eastern Colorado. It’s a community marked by agriculture, blue-collar industry, and resilience, but also burdened by the real challenges of poverty, addiction, and limited access to stable housing and transportation. Many in the community are searching for purpose, value, and hope.
At The Rock, these challenges have long been felt. With aging facilities and limited resources, necessary building upgrades seemed out of reach. “The lack of finances and able-bodied individuals has placed the facilities in need,” Pastor Timothy explained. “We were growing, but we did not see any hope of accomplishing some very important upgrades.” That’s exactly where SeedOne is stepping in with tools, hearts, and hands ready to help.
Beginning September 26, 2025, SeedOne volunteers will arrive in Sterling to revitalize The Rock’s campus. The upcoming work will not only give the church building a much-needed facelift, but it's also expected to reduce gas and electric costs by nearly $800 per month. Those savings mean more resources can be poured directly into the ministry. “SeedOne has brought hope and excitement back into the body and the neighborhood,” said Pastor Tim. “People are looking at us with curiosity and wonder, opening opportunities for conversation and ministry.”
What makes this transformation especially powerful is the spiritual anticipation it has stirred within the congregation. “The congregation is filled with excitement and anticipation for what God will do to lead others into the newly transformed building,” Pastor Tim said. This is more than paint and repairs. It’s a visual testimony that God is still working, still rebuilding, and still inviting His people to be part of something greater.

Even before the first nail is hammered, the project is already creating a ripple effect. “This process has opened many doors for communication and ministry,” the Pastor noted. Many in the community don’t even realize The Rock is a church. It’s often mistaken for a school. But that’s about to change. “This is the beginning of the transformation of property and lives, for the people of Sterling to come and see that God is in the business of transforming lives even through buildings.”
To those considering serving with SeedOne, Pastor Tim offered a heartfelt invitation: “This ministry brings more than a facelift to buildings. It transforms hopelessness into hope, value into those who feel abandoned and gives life to people who cannot see a good future.” He’s confident in the eternal impact volunteers can have. “The workers of SeedOne Ministries lift hearts to see that God wants to do ‘more than we can imagine or think.’”
And to fellow pastors wondering if they should encourage their people to serve? His answer was simple and clear: “Do it.”
As the project approaches, there’s a sense that this isn’t just about restoring a church campus. It’s about preparing holy ground for revival in Sterling. With faith and partnership, The Rock Assembly of God and SeedOne are building a foundation for transformation—one beam, one soul, and one story at a time.
